Renault Duster’s RGMP and CMFB platform differences explained

Key features of RGMP

  • Modular platform: Can be used for different types of cars like SUVs, MPVs, sedans, and hatchbacks.

  • Multiple powertrains: Supports petrol, hybrid, CNG, flex-fuel and even electric vehicles.

  • Future-ready: Can support 2WD, 4WD, and electric AWD systems.

  • Made for India: Designed for Indian roads, extreme weather, and durability.

  • High safety target: Built aiming for 5-star safety standards.

  • Flexible size: Can support vehicles from sub-4m cars to 4.7m SUVs.

When Renault unveiled the Duster for India, it said the SUV was underpinned by the Renault Global Modular Platform (RGMP) despite being nearly identical to the European model which is based on the Common Module Family B (CMFB) platform. To be clear, the two platforms are not completely unique but are in fact quite similar. So what then are the differences that have merited the two platforms distinct names?

  1. RGMP gets new E&E architecture co-developed by Renault
  2. Sub-4m cars are easier to build without compromises on RGMP
  3. RGMP is compatible with EV, hybrid, and CNG powertrains

    In the new Duster

The new Duster built on RGMP gets:

    • Turbo-petrol engines

    • Strong hybrid option

    • ADAS features

    • Better safety and technology
